A chain of mountain ranges on the east coast the Appalachian mountains have multiple places for skiing and a plethora of mountain homes. Ski lodges and fireplaces everywhere would be proud to boast this mantel support in their lodges or mountain homes. A U-shaped bracket with minimal distraction from the beam over the fireplace comes in a flat black finish. Four countersunk holes provide a flush mount to place your mantel. The Appalachian Mantel Bracket works well in an industrial decor. If you are installing your mantel brackets into sheet rock, you will need to make sure you locate the wall studs. Support brackets must be installed in studs that are tied to the roof and floor structure. If new construction, lay out your placement and drill pilot holes in the studs, leave cutouts in the sheet rock for visibility. If installing in cement or brick and mortar be sure to have the appropriate drill bit for masonry and lag shields for your fasteners. Your Federal Brace Mantel brackets should not be spaced more than 40″ apart for a standard application. Once placement is determined, attach your first bracket. Make sure that when you fasten your bracket that you check for level in all directions. Your bracket should be level horizontally as well as vertically. Continue to install your brackets checking level in the same way each time and across consecutive brackets. Once all the brackets are in place, you will want to wipe them down to get rid of any handprints or other debris. Just before installation of you mantel you will need to apply adhesive or silicone to the top of the bracket to adhere it to the mantel. Once the mantel is in place, you can caulk around the edge of the brackets if you choose. This will give greater adherence to the mantel and cover any gap between the brackets and mantel.
